“What’s happening with this festival is magical,” says Martin Tremblay, President of Gestev. “To sell out the event in only its second year was beyond our expectations. The on-site experience won over audiences and artists alike. It showed that we’re really on to something special. This third edition promises to be just as great. This year, festival-goers will be able to get the party started on Friday night with Cigale en ville and take it to the beach on Saturday and Sunday.”
“Loto-Québec is excited to add Cigale to its Rendez-vous Loto-Québec lineup once again and invites festival-goers to come and experience the Port de Québec’s incredible Baie de Beauport site in the Capitale-Nationale region. I want to commend Gestev for its commitment to minimizing its environmental impact and creating socio-economic spinoffs in the community,” says Eric Meunier, Director of Social Responsibility at Loto-Québec.
Cigale en ville kicks off the festivities
On Friday, August 9, Cigale sails right into Québec City but will still be on the riverfront, at the enchanting and unique Port of Québec Agora. Québec’s own Loud will entertain the crowd under the stars. He has toured widely in Europe in recent years, including a show at the legendary Olympia in Paris on February 8. The Montréal rapper will take the stage after LOVA and Lary Kidd to serve up an evening packed with energy and surprises for his Québec City fans.
A line-up that says it’s summer!
On festival weekend, eight artists per day will again take turns on the beachside Loto-Québec and Fizz stages. The music will blast non-stop from 2:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. “We listened to the fans when we put together this year’s program,” says Dominique Goulet, Programming Director. “Almost half of the artists in our line-up were requested by festival-goers. It’s a way for us to make sure that the people who have been with us since the beginning get to enjoy the acts they want to see, year after year.”
On Saturday, Montréal band comment debord kicks off the day with lyric-heavy, laid-back rock that makes you sway to the music. Then the beat goes on with singer Rêve, winner of a Juno for Dance Recording of the Year for the catchy track “CTRL+ALT+DEL.” Australian Jack Botts is up next with his brand of folk music and acoustic songs, followed by Canadian duo Bob Moses, winners of a Grammy for their song “Tearing Me Up,” bringing their compelling mix of house, techno and indie influences to Québec City for the first time. Québec’s Pelch will then take the stage with his unique style and power. The eagerly awaited Dennis Lloyd follows with his blend of pop, R&B and electro, including his hit “Nevermind.” Then FouKi will keep the crowd hopping with his high-energy stage presence and eclectic mix of lyrical chanson, folk, rock, blues, jazz, Latin, reggae, R&B, trap and rap. Last but not least, Saturday’s headliner is Chet Faker, aka Nick Murphy. Having performed on major stages such as Coachella, Lollapalooza and countless others over the years, the Australian singer-songwriter with the soulful, atmospheric electronic sound will make his first stop in Québec City.
On Sunday, Uruguayan-born, Australian-based singer-songwriter Felipe Baldomir gets the ball rolling with an indie-folk vibe that combines open chords, harmonica, pumping rhythms, guitar riffs, sax and more. Gab Bouchard then takes the stage for a set of finely interwoven country-folk, pop-rock and soul music, interspersed with soft acoustic passages. Montréal singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Soran will show why he is an indie-pop phenomenon in the making. JP Saxe, known for his breakthrough single “If the World Was Ending,” will bring his pop and R&B tunes and introspective, emotional lyrics to Québec City for the first time. Then Montréal singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Geoffroy will treat the audience to a blend of pop, electro and folk that never fails to create a unique and captivating atmosphere. The festive feeling continues with Australian band The Cat Empire and their eclectic fusion of jazz, ska, rock, funk, reggae and hip-hop. American singer-songwriter Matt Maeson, known for his hits “Cringe” and “Hallucinogenics,” will then work his magic on the festival. France’s Bon Entendeur will close the 3rd edition of Cigale on a high note with their unique blend of French cultural references, retro and contemporary music and important statements laid over a mix of electro, house, disco, funk, pop and sometimes jazz beats.
A complete experience
