With great enthusiasm, Gestev and MONARQUE unveil an ambitious new theatrical adaptation that promises to captivate audiences. Québec-Montréal, the cult classic of Quebec cinema directed by Ricardo Trogi, is set to make its stage debut. Directed by Pierre-François Legendre—who was part of the film's original cast—this production features a prestigious and fresh ensemble.
Tickets for the 28 performances across nine cities in Quebec in 2025 and 2026 will go on sale this Friday, February 14, at 10 a.m. on gestev.com.
Released in 2002, Québec-Montréal is a dramatic comedy that explores human relationships, unspoken tensions, and misunderstandings through the intersecting stories of several characters traveling between two iconic cities. Now, the work finds a new voice in this stage adaptation, offering audiences a renewed experience while staying true to the film’s essence.
A Passionate Revival
"For several years, André (Robitaille) and I have dreamed of bringing this cult film back to life, a film that has left a mark on more than one generation. After convincing the original writers, securing a director, and assembling an outstanding cast, we were determined to find the perfect team—one that would share our passion, values, and dedication to bringing it back to life… but this time, on stage! Gestev proved to be the ideal partner in every way to bring our vision to life—and even surpass it," says Mario Provencher, producer at Monarque.
"Québec-Montréal left an impact on the collective imagination of Quebec with its biting humor and poignant reflections," adds Martin Tremblay, president of Gestev. "Without a doubt, this energetic and youthful cast will bring back memories for longtime fans of the film while giving a new generation across Quebec the opportunity to discover this significant work."
Captivating Direction and an Exceptional Cast
"When I was offered the chance to direct Québec-Montréal, I was so excited that I said yes without even thinking," confesses Pierre-François Legendre, the play’s director. "Excitement turned into joy as I revisited that carefree era… and then, a slight vertigo set in! Being part of this film meant so much to me and many of my friends, and I want to do it justice. Looking at this amazing cast, I feel like we’re on the right track!"
The production features a talented ensemble, including Charlotte Aubin (Katherine), Catherine Brunet (Julie), Louis Carrière (Pierre-François), Patrick Emmanuel Abellard (Michel Gauvin), Pier-Luc Funk (Rob), Mickaël Gouin (Cossette), Simon Pigeon (JP), and Antoine Pilon (Rivard). The adaptation’s writers—Ricardo Trogi, Patrice Robitaille, and Jean-Philippe Pearson—will also pass the torch of their original roles to this new generation.
